Theme:
"The Eucharist:  Source and Summit of the Life and Mission of the Church."

Catholics believe in transubstantiation, the holistic conversion of the bread and wine into the body and blood of Christ.  The Holy Eucharist is not simply a symbol of Christ's sacrifice, but instead the "Source and Summit" of our lives and our faith.  Therefore it is especially fitting that we dedicate an entire year to the celebration of this most holy sacrifice.

During this time, we are to reflect on the Holy Father's Apostolic Letter Novo Millennio Ineunte which invites the faithful to a "higher standard of Christian living" grounded in prayer and the sacraments.
