OUR LADY OF PEACE (1975)
Dillon, an 1880s mining town served by both the Denver,
South Park & Pacific and the Denver & Rio Grande railroads, came back
to life during the 1970s with construction of Lake Dillon, the Eisenhower
Tunnel, and the Keystone ski and summer resort. Although the old town
of Dillon lies under the lake, New Dillon town is thriving.
Our Lady of Peace opened on December 18, 1975, and a rectory was built
across Lake Dillon in Frisco at 2 West Miners Creek Road. This humble
church, made of plywood and cedar panels on a poured cement foundation,
offers a Saturday evening and a Sunday morning Mass. Thomas Mosher,
Dillon's pastor since 1988, reports that:
Because of the changing demographics in northern
Summit County towns of Dillon, Frisco, Silverthorne, and Keystone,
the number of parishioners in this "mission" has almost doubled
in the period of one decade. We are looking into the possiblity of
expanding or even replacing this humble church to meet the needs of
a growing community.
