Office of Marriage and Family Life: Natural Family Planning

The Office of Marriage & Family Life promotes natural family planning (NFP) as a highly effective, maritally enriching, spiritually enlightening, emotionally uplifting, sexually fulfilling and moral means of planning one's family.

  • The Office of Marriage & Family Life offers a host of educational workshops and resources to parishes to help couples understand the importance and soundness of the Church's teaching on the proper regulation of births. For further resources, including brochures, articles, and books, contact the Coordinator.
  • The Office of Marriage & Family Life currently promotes and sponsors classes in two methods of NFP instruction in the archdiocese: the Sympto-Thermal Method, and the Creighton Model of the Ovulation Method.

The Sympto-Thermal Method is usually taught in a classroom setting by a certified married couple in a series of four meetings at monthly intervals. This method involves observation of the symptoms of fertility (cervical mucus, and change in the shape and texture of the cervix) as well as the change in basal body temperature. Hence, the "sympto-thermal" method. For further information and to register for a Sympto-Thermal class in your area, call the NFP Hotline at 303-715.3239 (In the Ft. Morgan area call Carolyn Hochanadel at 970-867-5879).
NFP Schedule

The Creighton Model of the Ovulation Method involves one introductory session in a group-setting and as many as 8 private and individualized follow ups over 3-4 months based on your personal needs. It relies on a detailed observation of cervical mucus as the main indicator of fertility. There are several Creighton teachers in the area who work on an individual basis. For more information call Connie Navratil at 303-421-4875 or Ellen Moran at 303-987-8187.

If you are preparing for the Sacrament of Marriage and are having a hard time finding a NFP class that fits with your schedule, you may "hop around" to different classes as long you still taike them in order (i.e. class#1, class#2, class#3, etc...). If you do this, please call the instructor of the first class you plan to attend and let him/her know the time and location of all the classes you will be attending. This way you will be registered and will be able to receive your certificate of completion.

If you have questions, please contact the Coordinator of the Office of Marriage & Family Life at (303) 715-3259
