The Year of Faith Pope Benedict XVI has called for a Year of Faith from Oct. 11 through Nov. 24, 2013. During this observance the Denver Catholic Register will run a series of Year of Faith catechetical boxes, which will replace “The Saints” box. Abraham is the “father in faith” for Christians, Jews and Muslims. He is our father in faith because he trusted God even though he couldn’t see how God was going to fulfill his promises of land, nation and worldwide blessing. Though he and Sarah were barren, Abraham believed that God would provide a son. “Hoping against hope, he believed and thus became the father of many nations” (Rom 4:18). Above all, Abraham is our father in faith because he offered up his son Isaac believing that “God was able to raise men even from the dead” (Heb 11:19).
