Archbishop Aquila to reopen Seton House through Christ in the City missionaries

August 13, 2012 - Christ in the City, a Catholic service program for young adults, warmly invites all interested media outlets to join Most Rev. Samuel J. Aquila, newly installed archbishop of Denver, for the blessing and re-opening of historical Seton House.

Beginning at 2 p.m. Aug. 15, Archbishop Aquila will join the Christ in the City missionaries, District 8 Councilman Albus Brooks, District 6 Denver Police Commander Tony Lopez and business leaders in the blessing and inauguration of Seton House. The event will begin with opening remarks by the archbishop and Christ in the City Program Director Yvonne Noggle, followed by a blessing of the house.

Seton House, which is owned by the Denver Archdiocese’s Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, will serve as headquarters for Christ in the City.

More than 20 Christ in the City missionaries, staff and alumni will make Seton House their home base as they serve 1,000-plus people weekly either on the streets of Denver or in different nonprofit organizations. Christ in the City seeks to help young people respond to Jesus Christ’s call to his disciples to serve the poor among them.

The program, which started its second year of service this month, welcomes 16 new missionaries, ages 19-28, who will commit from one semester to one year of their lives to serve the poor and vulnerable while living in the community, partaking in spiritual formation and receiving educational training.

Initiated in 2009 under the leadership of former Denver Archbishop Charles J. Chaput and Catholic Charities, Christ in the City is now a program of the Christian Life Movement, a Catholic lay ecclesial movement.
