WASHINGTON (Feb. 10, 2012) – The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has issued the following statement regarding recent changes to the HHS mandate. In short, the USCCB states that the regulatory changes announced Feb. 10 remain limited and unclear and that rescission of the mandate is the only complete solution. They urge Catholics to call for passage of the Respect for Rights of Conscience Act.

Jan. 25, 2012 (This article was reprinted by the Denver Post on Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012)  - On Fri., Jan. 20, 2012, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that most religious institutions – including Catholic hospitals, schools and social service agencies – would not be exempted from a federal government requirement that employee health plans must provide free contraceptives. The announcement was a death knell for religious liberty in the United States.
