VALENTINE OPEN HOUSE Where: Boulder Gabriel House, 2885 Aurora Ave., Boulder |
To foster relationships with parishioners, neighbors, service agencies and the community at large, the Boulder Gabriel House will host a Valentine Open House from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Feb. 11.
The Boulder Gabriel House is an outreach for pregnant women and families. Opened last November, the site near the University of Colorado campus—at 2885 Aurora Ave.—is the second Catholic pregnancy center in the Denver Archdiocese.
“We’re welcoming parishioners, and sending invitations to agencies and organizations we’d like to come,” said Mimi Eckstein, director of the Gabriel Project for the archdiocese. “We’ll show them the house and give them an idea of what we do.”
During the open house, which is open to the public, tours will be available. Volunteers will be on-hand to explain the ministry, answer questions and serve clients.
Currently there are 20 volunteers working at the house, which is staffed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
Since opening, volunteers have assisted five mothers and several families.
“Word is spreading,” said Eckstein. “Word of mouth, that’s what’s happening up there now.”
Five of the 13 parishes that make up the Boulder Deanery have coordinators in place to develop support for the house: St. Thomas Aquinas, Sacred Heart of Jesus, and Sacred Heart of Mary, all in Boulder; St. Francis of Assisi in Longmont; and Immaculate Conception in Lafayette.
The Denver Gabriel House, headquarters for the Gabriel Project, is located at 1341 Oneida St. in Denver. Both houses have bilingual volunteers.
“Our volunteers are filled with the Holy Spirit,” said Eckstein gratefully, “… good people.”
