‘Holy Hour for Marriage’ set

For the first time in the Denver Archdiocese, the faithful are being invited to participate in a Holy Hour at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception to pray for the sanctity of marriage.
The “Holy Hour for Marriage” is set from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 11 at the Cathedral Basilica, located at 1530 Logan St. in downtown Denver.
The liturgy is sponsored by the archdiocese’s Office of Marriage and Family Life and The Alexander House apostolate to mark World Marriage Day. The Diocese of Colorado Springs and the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Texas, are also offering inaugural “Holy Hours for Marriage” that day, organizers said.
“Marriage is a vocation,” said Phil Webb, director of the Marriage and Family Life Office. “It is the way couples choose to answer to God’s call to holiness.”
Like every spiritual life, the spirituality of married people must be nourished on the Eucharist, Webb said, adding that Mass attendance provides this nourishment.
“Another way the Church recommends is the worship of the Eucharist outside Mass, especially in the form of Benediction where we pay reverence to the same body and blood of Christ that we receive at Mass,” he said.
Because the institution of marriage is being attacked socially, politically and spiritually, the archdiocese wanted to provide an opportunity to pray for the sacrament.
“We must partner in prayer with the author of marriage to protect it,” Webb said. “Strong marriages can renew our Church, bringing with them strong vocations to the priesthood and religious life.”
