March 16, 2012 - The US Bishops Conference is calling for a nationwide prayer campaign for protection of religious freedom and conscience rights. In a March 14 statement titled “United for Religious Freedom,” they wrote: “Prayer is the ultimate source of our strength—for without God, we can do nothing; but with God, all things are possible.”

Beverly Carroll, Ph.D., Secretariat of Cultural Diversity in the Church and Rev. Fr. Cyprian Davis, O.S.B., Ph.D., St. Meinard Archabbey saw a need for a provenance and history of black Catholics in American history. Thus began these writings about the African American presence in the USA and in the Catholic Church.
