On the evening of Aug. 9, Archbishop Charles Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., celebrated Mass for the deacons of the Denver Archdiocese at St. Joan of Arc Church in Arvada.
A banquet followed during which deacons were honored for their years of service.
Profiles of the 30-year deacons and 35-year Deacon Nathan Coursey will run in the Aug. 24 Denver Catholic Register. Denver Deacon Dennis Hronek, who now lives in Nebraska, is also marking his 35-year anniversary.
During the festivities it was announced that a farewell gift from the deacons and priests to Archbishop Chaput, who is leaving Denver next month to be installed as archbishop of Philadelphia, is a ceremonial Book of the Gospels cover.
