Justin Jelinek, 32, successfully completed his most recent “Run for a Reason” July 31 as he crossed the end of the Goldhill Trailhead, located in Breckenridge. His mission to train and fundraise was well supported, raising $3,030 for Arrupe Jesuit High School in his nearly 33-mile mountain run.
“I was fortunate enough to attend Regis Jesuit High School, and really appreciate all the values that a Jesuit education has given me,” he explained. “I researched Arrupe, who provides a Jesuit, college-preparatory education to economically disadvantaged students, and immediately knew that I wanted this school to be the recipient of Running for a Reason’s first event.”
Running for a Reason, Jelinek’s newly founded charity, was born out of a longtime passion for the sport.
“I have always enjoyed running, and was ready to do another long, endurance run but didn’t want to pay yet another entrance fee to run a marathon for a T-shirt,” Jelinek said. “To me it is so important to use the skills you have to help those in need. I have always really enjoyed challenging myself by running long distances, so I knew that this was a perfect way to start a new charity, Running for a Reason.”
Jelinek ran 32.9 miles in six and a half hours, starting near Fairplay at Kenosha Pass and ending at the Goldhill Trailhead. The route is about 90 percent above 10,000 feet in elevation and has an elevation gain of 4,495 feet.
