Silver Bell Ball to honor religious sister
By John Gleason
The eighth Silver Bell Ball to benefit Mount St. Vincent Home will honor Sister of Charity of Leavenworth Sister Roberta Furey for more than 30 years of service to children at the home. Originally an orphanage, the northwest Denver home now serves abused, neglected and mentally ill children. The ball is set for Nov. 11 at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in downtown Denver.
“Sister Roberta really carries in her heart the history and mission of the Sisters of Charity ministry here, from orphanage days to today,” said Sister Amy Willcott, S.C.L., executive director of the home. In preparation for the ball’s silent auction, there will be two gift gathering parties at the home to collect items: 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Aug. 12 and 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Sept. 15. The August party features Zweigle’s hot dogs and sausages; the September event will include Mass and a spaghetti dinner.
Entrance to the parties is gained by either bringing a gift for the auction or buying a $50 ticket to a $10,000 cash prize raffle, which will drawn at the ball. Only 2,000 raffle tickets will be sold.
The home is located at 4159 Lowell Blvd. in Denver. To attend the gift parties, purchase raffle tickets or gala tickets (sponsorship packages, corporate and family tables, and individual tickets are available) contact Kay McDowell at 303-458-7220 Ext. 346 or visit www.msvhome.org.
