Scapular distribution at monastery
By John Gleason
|
|
Father John Riley of St. John Vianney Theological Seminary distributes scapulars during a liturgy at Carmel of the Holy Spirit Monastery in Littleton the evening of July 16, feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
The liturgy was the last in a triduum honoring Our Lady of Mount Carmel, patroness of the Discalced Carmelite nuns who reside at the monastery.
The triduum remembers Mary’s gift of the brown scapular, the most popular devotional after the rosary, to St. Simon Stock in the 13th century. The triduum coincides with an annual pledge drive for the nuns, who rely on alms for support.
The nuns welcome prayer requests and the faithful are always invited to their 6:30 a.m. Mass, which is offered seven days a week in their chapel (see address below).
Mail prayer requests and/or donations to: Carmel of the Holy Spirit Monastery, 6138 S. Gallup St., Littleton, CO 80120. Call 303-798-4176.
