The Regis Jesuit Boys Baseball team roared to victory in the state 5A championship May 28 at All City Field in Denver as the Raiders defeated Cherry Creek 15-10.
The win, which capped a 20-7 season, was extra sweet as Creek had already handed Regis one loss in the double-elimination tournament.
The Raiders, coached by Steve Cavnar, fought their way back into the championship game after beating Cherokee Trail High School earlier in the day by a score of 6-0.
Scoring for Regis was led by senior Evan Escobedo who had two three-run homeruns, while classmates Tanner Ernst and Sam Cameron each added their own home runs.
Additional hits were made by seniors Drew Merten and Mitch Robinson and sophomore Brody Weiss. This was the first state baseball championship for Regis since 1988.
