The $2.8 million mausoleum, designed by J. Stuart Todd Architects, completes the first of a three-phase construction project on the shores of St. Anthony Lake. The mausoleum will be used for above ground entombment and inurnment caskets or cremated remains.
“The project came in under budget and on time,” said Lloyd Swint, assistant director of the Denver Archdiocese’s Mount Olivet and St. Simeon cemeteries.
Builders were Haselden Construction and McCleskey Mausoleums.
“Statues, benches and landscaping are in progress as well as the addition of lake fountains to enhance the ambiance and peace of the already tranquil, holy setting,” Swint said.
Nearly 1,000 people attended the mid-morning Memorial Day Mass held in Gallagher Chapel, which houses the crypts of former bishops and archbishops of the Denver Archdiocese.
At the Mass, the archbishop commented on the beauty of both Mount Olivet and St. Simeon cemeteries and thanked the staffers for their work caring for the dead.
