Regis swimmers take 5A state title
The 5A state swimming and diving championship meet, held May 21 at Edora Pool and Ice Center in Fort Collins, saw Regis Jesuit High School Boys Division team win first place in overall point totals in competition involving 35 schools. The Raiders had a total of 296.5 points. Cherry Creek High School was second overall, Highlands Ranch was third.
Regis Jesuit’s win, their 18th state swimming championship, was inadvertently omitted from the prep state titles roundup in last week’s Denver Catholic Register.
Ben Fry led the Raiders with first-place finishes in the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle individual events. The team placed first in the 200-yard freestyle relay and second in the 200-yard medley relay. Other individual top finishes included Clark Smith getting first in the 100-yard butterfly and Hennessey Stuart garnering third in the 100-yard backstroke.
At press time on Friday, the Regis Jesuit boys baseball team was set to compete in the state 5A baseball championship game over the weekend. If the Raiders win the state title, notice will run in the June 15 Denver Catholic Register.
