Memorial Day Mass at Mount Olivet
The public is invited to the annual Memorial Day Mass at Mount Olivet Cemetery 11 a.m. May 30. Held in the sacred and picturesque surroundings of the cemetery, the Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M., Cap., in the outdoor chapel at the Gallagher Mausoleum.
Mike Wright, director of Archdiocese of Denver Mortuary and Mount Olivet Cemetery, said the cemetery is setting up for a large attendance, but people are encouraged to bring along a blanket to sit on and an umbrella to protect themselves from the sun.
“A lot of people show up,” he said. “We usually set up 1,000 chairs and there are always more who either bring their own chairs or end up sitting on the grass.
“Over that weekend, our estimate is that we have 25,000 visitors between Friday and Monday,” Wright added. “Those who are hoping to avoid a lot of traffic are encouraged to come out early in the morning before the roads get too busy.”
Mount Olivet Cemetery is located at 12801 W. 44th Ave. in Wheat Ridge. The cemetery will be open daily throughout the weekend 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
