Archbishop to ordain 8 men to priesthood
Class of 2011 trends younger, shows strong influence of local university campus ministries
Beginning at 10 am on Sat., May 21, Archbishop Chaput will ordain eight men to serve as priests in the Denver Archdiocese. The profiles of the soon-to-be priests reveal they are younger than those ordained in recent years, and that many of them were influenced by Catholic campus ministry during their college years.
A national survey showed men are becoming priests at a younger age. The average age of men ordained to the priesthood in the class of 2011 is 34. This is slightly younger than 2010, and follows a five-year trend.* Locally, the average age of the seven men to be ordained priests on May 21 for the Archdiocese of Denver is 34—with 30 being the median age.
Catholic outreach on college campuses, specifically the University of Colorado at Boulder and the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley, influenced members of this year’s ordination class. Three of the seven – all of them alumni of these two universities – cited involvement with the campus ministry called FOCUS (Fellowship of Catholic University Students) as part of their journey to the priesthood.
The men to be ordained are:
- Michael Bodzioch, 53, of Elizabeth, N.J.
- Dennis Garrou, 64, of Evergreen, Colo. [click here to read separate press release]
- Gerónimo González, 27, of Aurora, Colo.

- John Nepil, 27, of Denver, Colo.
- Gregg Pedersen, 34, of Colorado Springs, Colo.
- Brady Wagner, 29, of Denver, Colo.
- Grzegorz Wojcik, 31, of Poland
