Catholic Foundation grants $648,645 in first quarter

Thomas D. Heule, chairman of The Catholic Foundation for the Roman Catholic Church in Northern Colorado, recently announced the appointment of James G. Kontny to the board.
Kontny is president and manager of Farmers Grain Company of Julesburg, Colo. Kontny and his wife Carol are members of St. Anthony’s Church in Julesburg, where he serves as chairman of the Finance Council.
“The foundation will benefit from his leadership and support,” said Gerald J. “Bud” Laber, president of The Catholic Foundation.
Laber also reported first quarter grants totaling $648,645 from The Catholic Foundation Donor-advised Funds.
Among the many receiving grants were:
- the Alternative Pregnancy Center
- the Augustine Institute
- Bishop Machebeuf High School
- Catholic Charities of Denver
- Catholic Relief Services
- Fellowship of Catholic University Students
- Presentation of Our Lady Catholic School
- Samaritan House-Denver
- St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church
- St. John Vianney Theological Seminary
Total granting making since the inception of The Catholic Foundation exceeds $65 million. In 2011, grant making is expected to exceed $5 million.
