Tridentine Mass to be celebrated at cathedral
A Tridentine Mass, the Latin-language liturgy used before the Second Vatican Council, will be celebrated at 3 p.m. Sept. 14, the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross, in the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception. Father James Jackson, a cleric of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, will be the main celebrant.
Everyone is invited to the liturgy. Missals will be provided to follow the Mass in English.
The Mass will be the first solemn high Mass said in the cathedral in 40 years, according to Father Jackson. It will commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter, which was established by Pope John Paul II to provide the Tridentine rite to those who are attached to it, and the first anniversary of Pope Benedict XVII’s 2007 apostolic letter, “Summorum Pontificum,” which expanded use of the Tridentine liturgy.
