Students win awards for sacred art
On the evening of All Saints Day, Nov. 1, approximately 100 students, parents and guests filled the ground floor of the Governor’s Mansion to see the winning entries in a contest sponsored by the Foundation of Sacred Art and hear the South Jeffco Youth Orchestra Quartet under the direction of Min Park.
The contest sponsors invited religious schools throughout the area to submit works by eighth-graders and seniors in high school that express the theme “Yearning for Peace.”
The prizes were scholarship funds to attend a religiously-based high school and Regis University. The winner of $1,500 toward tuition was Ashley Villa of Guardian Angels School with her work titled “The Game of Life.”
Receiving honorable mention awards were Savanna Baron, also of Guardian Angels with her work titled “Amera’a,” and Lynn Heller of Shrine of St. Anne School with her work “Life is Yearning for Peace.” Organizers said the Foundation of Sacred Art intends to hold the event each year.
