Events to salute veterans
By Denver Catholic Register
Veterans Day, Nov. 11 was originally known as Armistice Day. The date commemorates the signing of the Armistice—technically a cessation of hostilities—on Nov. 11, 1918 (on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month), which put an end to World War I. Now known as Veterans Day, the holiday is a time when the country honors all those who have served in the armed forces.
Around the state parades, celebrations and liturgies will be held to remember those who have worn a uniform in service to their country. Some will be held on Veterans Day, others will take place the weekend before. Below are some of the events scheduled.
