Now through Dec. 12, everyone shopping at any of Azteca’s three local stores (Denver, Lakewood and Aurora) will be given the opportunity at the end of their grocery transaction to donate a specified amount (in increments of 50 cents) to Centro. Centro is an initiative of the Denver Archdiocese and assists nearly 30,000 individuals each year.
“Azteca Ranch Market is one of the fastest growing businesses in the area, many Hispanics buy there,” said Luis Soto, executive director of Centro. “To work with them will not only benefit the programs of Centro but will also raise awareness of our mission of providing integral (Catholic) formation to our community.”
Jennie Marquez, assistant director of Centro, said the partnership is exciting.
“Although the services that Azteca and Centro offer are completely different,” she said, “both entities believe it is important to give back to the community and to provide necessary services so the Latino population can grow in their education and become better leaders in society and in the Church.”
Lupita Romero, coordinator of advertising for Azteca, agreed.
“We are what we are now thanks to the community,” she said. “They are very loyal to us, so to join efforts with Centro is a way to (thank) them. The mission of Centro to help educate the Latino community is a priority for us as well.”
The fundraising campaign will end on Dec. 12, the feast of our Lady of Guadalupe. The feast will be celebrated with a Mass of thanksgiving and a festival at each of the three grocery stores: Aurora - 11505 E. Colfax Ave.; Denver - 1951 S. Federal Blvd.; and Lakewood - 225 S. Sheridan Blvd.
