Mass to honor police, firefighters and EMS professionals
The Archdiocese of Denver will hold its fourth annual Blue Mass at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 11 at Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 1530 Logan St., Denver. The Mass, held to recognize all police officers, firefighters and EMS (emergency medical services) personnel, as well as honor those who have given themselves in the line of duty, will be celebrated by Auxiliary Bishop James D. Conley.
The history of the Blue Mass begins with Father Thomas Dade of the Diocese of Baltimore who, in 1934, organized the Catholic Police and Firemen’s Society. That first year more than 1,100 police and firefighters took part in the celebration.
Firefighters and police officers who plan on attending the Mass are asked to do so in uniform. For more information on the Blue Mass, contact the Office of Liturgy at 303-715-3156 or email liturgy.office@archden.org.
