Regis boys collect second state title
In what can only be described as heart-stopping action, the Regis Jesuit High School boys basketball team snagged their second consecutive state title, defeating Fairview High School 68-58 in overtime March 13.
The game was played before more than 10,000 enthusiastic fans at Coors Events Center Saturday night.
The Raiders were slow to start in the early minutes of the game but took control enough to tie the score 52-52 at the end of regulation play. They dominated the Knights in overtime and came away with the win.
In a statement to Regis parents on the school Web site, Jesuit Father Phil Steele, president of the school, congratulated the team saying it was a wonderful way to begin spring break.
“To be part of the record crowd who witnessed our boys basketball team lurch to its second consecutive state title was exhilarating and exhausting,” he said. “When the overtime clock finally read ‘0,’ a moment of pure elation made us all one—students and faculty, parents, grandparents, alumni and friends.”
