Purity programs for youths set
Programs presenting an all-encompassing, timely and sensible look at chastity for young people today will be offered in the Denver Archdiocese in the coming days and weeks.
All mothers and daughters are invited to attend the 2010 Catholic Mother-Daughter program, a delightful afternoon of discovering the real beauty of being a female-bodied image of God. The program, which is led by consecrated laywoman Celeste Thomas, has enjoyed enthusiastic success in past years as it provides a springboard for moms and daughters to talk openly and frankly about God’s plan for authentic love and living a holy life.
Among the many topics covered at the event are an overview of female body changes occurring during puberty; information on hygiene, diet and exercise; the good and bad of our “networked” culture; modesty, peer pressure, dating and help in understanding what true love is.
The program will be held from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. Feb. 28 for girls ages 13-16 in Bonfils Hall at the John Paul II Center, 1300 S. Steele St., Denver. Cost for the event is $20 per family, which includes all materials and refreshments. To reserve your space, call 303-758-6374 and leave a message with your name, phone number and number of attendees. Payment is made at the time of the program.
St. Thomas More Parish will host the Ain’t Misbehavin’ purity rally from 3 p.m.-7:30 p.m. Feb. 28. The rally is sponsored by the youth ministry program at the parish. The event will include skits, talks and videos, praise and worship, and Mass. All participants will receive purity rings and cards as souvenirs of the day. The rally is open to all students in grades seven to 12 and costs just $15 per person, which includes dinner. Ain’t Misbehavin’ will be held in the parish center, 8035 S. Quebec St. in Centennial. Space is limited. For reservations, call 303-220-3388 Ext. 1 or visit online at stthomasmore.org/youth-ministry.
A program for fathers and sons called Authentic Manhood, will be held from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. March 14 at the John Paul II Center in Denver. For the past 20 years, this program, geared toward young men ages 10-14, has presented a brief overview of male bodily changes that occur during puberty as well as a positive and thoroughly Catholic presentation about chastity, purity and the meaning of true love. Cost of the day is $20, which includes materials and refreshments. The John Paul II Center is located at 1300 S. Steele St., Denver. Call 303-758-6374 for reservations.
