The Saints: St. Scholastica c. 480-547/ Feast - Feb. 10 By tradition the twin of St. Benedict, patriarch of Western monks, Scholastica was dedicated to God from childhood and likely lived in a convent near his Monte Cassino monastery. Brother and sister met once a year for spiritual discourse. At their last meeting, Scholastica asked Benedict to stay the night, and when he said he couldn’t she fell into prayer. A sudden storm forced him to remain. Scholastica died three days later, and was buried in a tomb Benedict had prepared for himself. He later was buried in the same tomb. |
