Shoes for Christmas
Catholic Charities’ after-school program, LEAP, purchased shoes for low-income children last week thanks to the generosity of several donors participating in the annual Adopt-a-Family program.
“These parents are struggling just to put food on the table,” said Chanin Dean, LEAP program coordinator. “They cannot afford to purchase shoes for their kids. During this harsh winter season these children desperately need our help to get appropriate winter shoes.”
On the afternoons of Dec. 16 and 17, second- and third-grade students from Force Elementary School and second- and fifth-graders from Johnson Elementary School were bussed from their schools for a shoe-shopping trip to Payless Shoe Source on the corner of Evans Avenue and Federal Boulevard. Each child was able to pick his or her own pair of shoes.
