Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary marks 25 years
About 150 friends, family and religious attended the celebration of the silver anniversary of the Knights of Peter Claver Ladies Auxiliary’s founding of Deacon Charles Bright Court 261.
In conjunction with Cure d’Ars Parish, Court 261 honored the charter members for 25 years of service to the Church, the community and to the Knights of Peter Claver order. A luncheon and fashion show was held at Park Hill Golf Club on Oct. 18. Father Simon Kalonga, pastor of Cure d’Ars, offered the blessing before the luncheon.
The order is named after St. Peter Claver, a Jesuit priest from Spain who ministered to African slaves imported to Cartagena, Columbia, during the 1600s.
he mission of the order is to be faithful to the doctrines of the Church; to be sensitive to the needs of the Church and the community; to support youth through scholarships and other activities; to pray for and encourage vocations; and, to portray by example and deed the higher principles of Christian life.
Nov. 7 was the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Knights of Peter Claver in Mobile, Ala.
