Students honored by Denver police
On Dec. 9, four eighth-grade students from Most Precious Blood School in Denver were honored by the Denver Police Department for assisting in an investigation.
The students, while walking to school, discovered a gun lying in the grass. Presuming that it wasn’t a toy, the students notified an adult at the school who in turn called the police.
Principal Colleen McManamon told the Denver Catholic Register she was extremely proud of the students.
“We’re proud of their presence of mind and ability to do the right thing,” McManamon said. “They didn’t just presume that it was someone else’s problem. At the assembly we brought in many of the younger students so they could witness that good things happen when you do the right thing.”
The students were publicly acknowledged by Chief Gerald Whitman and other members of the Denver Police Department. All four were also presented with commendatory letters, the highest civilian honor that can be bestowed by the department.
