Dr. Ray to offer parenting tips and humor in free talk
By Julie Filby
"Energetic,” “hilarious” and “highly recommended.” This is how audiences have described Dr. Ray Guarendi.
At 8 p.m. Nov. 5, Guarendi—or Dr. Ray as he is commonly known—will present “Back to the Family” at St. Joseph Church in Fort Collins. The presentation is free and open to the public, however reservations are recommended as seating is limited.
In his talk, based on his book of the same title, Dr. Ray will reinforce traditional ideas about family life while offering reassuring surprises as well. It will be packed with humor and real-life examples.
“The audience will leave laughing, feeling emotionally upbeat and more self-confident,” Dr. Ray said. “I’ll offer plenty of practical ideas for dealing with children more calmly and easily.”
In the research for his book, Dr. Ray spent three years searching the country for exemplary families. He interviewed 100 such families that shared their wisdom and experience, to reveal not only the characteristics of strong families, but also the struggles and difficulties most families face.
“They opened their homes and hearts to talk about their fears and frustrations and how they were resolved,” Dr. Ray said.
The parents interviewed suggested ways to reach unreachable adolescents, establish house rules and what discipline proved to be most effective in situations ranging from a child’s first temper tantrum through his or her first date.
“It’s about putting parents back in charge,” according to Dr. Ray. “If you’re struggling with your kids, I guarantee you will come way from this talk empowered.”
Dr. Ray, the father of 10 children ranging from age 22 to 12, is a clinical psychologist, author, speaker and radio host. He has been a regular guest on national radio and TV programs including Oprah, CBS This Morning and 700 Club and hosts his own show “The Doctor Is In” on EWTN Radio and Ave Maria Radio.
He has written several books including “Discipline That Lasts a Lifetime,” “Good Discipline, Great Teens” and “You’re a Better Parent Than You Think!”
Dr. Ray’s goal for his audiences is to help them raise great kids, bolster self-confidence and put authority back in parents’ hands, where it belongs.
“We’ll also relax and laugh, whenever and however we can,” he added.
