Denver bishops comment on Pope's choice of successor for Bishop of Pueblo
Archbishop Chaput, together with Auxiliary Bishop Conley offered the following remarks in response to the announcement of an Episcopal successor for the Bishop of Pueblo, Most Rev. Arthur Tafoya.
The Church has a long tradition of deepening the unity among her people by bringing good leaders to new communities where their talents can be most fruitful. Bishop-elect Fernando Isern is new to the Rocky Mountain west, but he comes with the enthusiastic support of the many laypeople and bishops, in Florida and elsewhere, who know the excellent quality of his priestly service. He has an outstanding record of leadership as a pastor, a devotion to prison ministry and advocacy for the unborn child and the poor, strong personal roots in the Latino community, and a demonstrated ability to work with persons of many different ethnic and social backgrounds.
Bishop Arthur Tafoya has served the Church in the Diocese of Pueblo in a distinguished way for many years. He will be greatly missed as a brother and leader as he begins a well-earned retirement. But he can take joy and confidence – as we do – in the character of the man who now takes up his duties.
Bishop-elect Isern, his successor, will now build on the legacy Bishop Tafoya leaves behind – a legacy of faith, great generosity and warmth among the Catholic people of southern and western Colorado.
We ask the people and clergy of the Archdiocese of Denver to join us in welcoming Bishop-elect to Isern the beauty of his new home state.

Los obispos de Denver se pronuncian sobre la elección del Papa del sucesor del Obispo de Pueblo
El Arzobispo Chaput junto con el Obispo Auxiliar Conley ofrecen las siguientes declaraciones ante el anuncio del sucesor episcopal de la Diócesis de Pueblo, Monseñor Arthur Tafoya.
La Iglesia tiene una larga tradición de impulsar la unidad en su pueblo trayendo buenos líderes a comunidades en donde sus talentos puedan ser más fructíferos. El Obispo-Electo Fernando Isern es nuevo en la región Oeste de las Montañas Rocosas, pero viene con el entusiasta apoyo de muchos laicos y obispos de Florida y otros lugares, quienes conocen la excelente calidad de su servicio sacerdotal.
El Obispo electo tiene un record sobresaliente como párroco, una gran dedicación al ministerio en las prisiones y apoyo por el no-nacido y el pobre, profundas raíces personales en la comunidad latina, y ha demostrado habilidad para trabajar con personas de diferentes etnias y orígenes sociales.
El Obispo Arthur Tafoya ha servido en la Diócesis de Pueblo de manera distinguida por muchos años. Será extrañado profundamente como hermano y líder a medida que empiece su bien merecido retiro. Pero puede tener el gozo y la confianza –como nosotros la tenemos- en la personalidad del hombre que ahora asume sus responsabilidades.
El Obispo-Electo Isern, su sucesor, construirá ahora en el legado que el Obispo Tafoya deja –un legado de fe, gran generosidad y calidez entre los católicos del sur-oeste de Colorado.
Le pedimos al pueblo y al clero de la Arquidiócesis de Denver que se unan a nosotros en dar la bienvenida al Obispo-Electo Isern a la belleza de su nuevo estado-hogar.
