July 28, 2011 - Archbishop Pietro Sambi, 73, the apostolic nuncio to the United States, died Wed., July 27. Archbishop Sambi, a native of central Italy, was appointed U.S. papal nuncio by Pope Benedict XVI in 2005. He accompanied Pope Benedict XVI during his 2008 visit to the U.S. Archbishop Chaput offered a reflection about his life, condolences and prayer in his July 28 statement.
