Bell ringing to honor religious order
All Catholic churches in the United States are invited to ring their church bells for one minute at 11:59 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Aug. 2 as a sign of God’s blessing on this nation, the Catholic Church and on the life and works of Elizabeth Ann Seton, the first U.S. born saint and foundress of the Sisters of Charity.
The bell ringing aims to honor the Church in America and the Sisters and Daughters of Charity throughout the world. The order is marking the bicentennial of its foundation in Emmitsburg, Md., on July 31.
