The Colorado chapter of the American Jewish Committee presented the 2009 National Human Relations Award to John Ikard, a Catholic who serves as president and CEO of FirstBank. Ikard was given the award at an April 23 dinner held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in downtown Denver.
The National Human Relations Award is presented annually to individuals who have demonstrated a profound commitment to preserving democracy. Ikard received the honor for the leadership positions he has taken in numerous civic and business organizations, including serving as chair of Denver Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Corporation, and board member of The Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Denver Archdiocese Finance Committee, and the Boy Scouts Executive Committee.
Born and reared in Southern New Mexico, Ikard graduated from Colorado State University in 1979. He has enjoyed a 27-year career in banking. Ikard and his wife of 23 years, Karen, reside in Littleton and have four children.
