Natural Family Planning
The Office of Marriage & Family Life promotes Natural Family Planning (NFP) as a highly effective, maritally enriching, spiritually enlightening, emotionally uplifting, sexually fulfilling and moral means of planning one's family.
What is Natural Family Planning?
This video, produced by the Archdiocese of Phoenix, offers an incredible glimpse behind the truth about Natural Family Planning, as seen through the eyes of real couples actually practicing and teaching its beautiful gift within their marriages.
How do I learn Natural Family Planning?
The Office of Marriage & Family Life currently promotes and sponsors classes in two methods of NFP instruction in the archdiocese:
- THE SYMPTO-THERMAL METHOD, as taught by the (A) Couple to Couple League, (B) Northwest Family Services, and (C) FertileView Software by Novuscor
- THE MUCUS ONLY METHOD, as taught by (A) FertileView Software by Novuscor or (B) The Creighton FertilityCare System
If taking these courses for marriage preparation requirements, please note that all of these courses require at least 3-4 months of instruction before your wedding, so early registration is important. Read below for further description and registration information on the different options available to you.
***For Marriage Preparation, you need only to complete ONE of the options below. ***
SYMPTO-THERMAL METHOD:
The Sympto-Thermal Method involves observation of several signs of fertility that change in response to the hormones of the woman's menstrual cycle. These observations include changes in cervical mucus, basal body temperature, and changes of the cervix. Hence, the reason it is called the "sympto-thermal" method. You can learn the Sympto-Thermal method through one of the organizations listed below.
(A) Couple to Couple League
NFP Courses with the Couple to Couple League (CCL) are taught in a classroom setting by a trained married couple in a series of three meetings at monthly intervals. For registration information, please click on the NFP Schedule. (http://www.denver.ccli.org/).
(B) Northwest Family Services
NFP Courses with Northwest Family Services (NWFS) are currently being offered by Carolyn Hochanadel in the Fort Morgan/Eastern area of Colorado. This course is taught through a series of three classes and follow-up meetings. For more information and to register please contact Carolyn at 970-867-5879 (It is best to call in the evenings).
(C) FertileView Software by Novuscor
FertileView is a downloadable biomedical informatics software program for fertility management. The program application tool allows the patient to chart their fertility signs while the FertileView program interprets the information. This comprehensive software program is designed to be used by the client to provide specific cycle details that include ovulation. The program data or informatics process shapes the boundaries of the client's fertility defining that optimal that optimal time to achieve pregnancy and when to avoid pregnancy. (B) Creighton FertilityCare System
The Creighton FertilityCare System is a model of Natural Family Planning that involves an introductory session in group-setting and as many as eight private and individualized follow-ups over the course of a year, based on your personal needs. The method relies on a detailed observation of external cervical mucus as the main indicator of fertility. There are several trained Creighton practitioners in the Archdiocese of Denver who work on an individual basis.
