Natural Family Planning
The Office of Marriage & Family Life promotes Natural Family Planning (NFP) as a highly effective, maritally enriching, spiritually enlightening, emotionally uplifting, sexually fulfilling and moral means of planning one's family.
How do I learn Natural Family Planning?
The Office of Evanzelization and Family Life Ministries currently promotes and sponsors classes in two methods of NFP instruction in the archdiocese:
THE SYMPTO-THERMAL METHOD, as taught by the (A) Couple to Couple League, (B) Symtopro Fertility Education by Northwest Family Services,
- THE MUCUS ONLY METHOD, as taught by (A) The Creighton FertilityCare System
If taking these courses for marriage preparation requirements, please note that all of these courses require at least 3-4 months of instruction before your wedding, so early registration is important. Read below for further description and registration information on the different options available to you.
***For Marriage Preparation, you need only to complete ONE of the options below. ***
The Sympto-Thermal Method involves observation of several signs of fertility that change in response to the hormones of the woman's menstrual cycle. These observations include changes in cervical mucus, basal body temperature, and changes of the cervix. Hence, the reason it is called the "sympto-thermal" method. You can learn the Sympto-Thermal method through one of the organizations listed below.
(A) Couple to Couple League
NFP Courses with the Couple to Couple League (CCL) are taught in a classroom setting by a trained married couple in a series of three meetings at monthly intervals.

(B) SymptoPro Fertility Education by Northwest Family Services
(with pastor's approval)
Northwest Family Family Services offers an online class based on the Sympto-Thermal Method of NFP. Couples work online with a certified SymptoPro Provider. Before you sign up for this class, you must have your pastor's approval.
MUCUS ONLY METHOD:
Mucus Only Methods relies on a detailed observation of external cervical mucus as the main indicator of fertility.
(A) Creighton Model FertilityCare System
Learn the Creighton Model in a provate and personalized setting with a FertilityCare Practitioner. This program is a one year program, but at least four months of the program needs to be completed before marriage. The remaining six months can be completed after marriage.
