Start Time of Easter Vigil
"The Easter Vigil, during the holy night when Christ rost from dead, ranks as the 'mother of all vigils'" (Augustine, sermon 219:PLS38, 1008). After consultation with the twilight chart for Denver and taking into account other pastoral considerations:
On April 7, 2012, the Easter Vigil should not begin before 7:30 p.m. With its emphasis on vigil and light," the entire celebration of the Easter Vigil takes place at night. It should not begin before nightfall; it should end before daybreak on Sunday" (Sacramentary, "The Easter Vigil"#3).
The earliest appropriate time for scheduling the Easter Vigil on April 7, 2012 is 7:30 p.m.
We hope this early information assists you as you plan for the great feast of Holy Saturday and the Easter Season.
