In gratitude

I thank you (Archbishop Chaput) and the people of the Archdiocese of Denver for your generous gift of $93,308.30 to build the pastoral capacity of the Catholic Church in Central and Eastern Europe.

The challenges facing the Church in the 28 countries of Central and Eastern Europe as well as the former Soviet Union seem almost as enormous as the vast territory of the region. This past year saw military strife in Georgia, new uncertainties in war-ravaged Kosovo, and deep economic hardships virtually everywhere.

Signs of growth and a deep, vigorous faith mark the region as well. The national collection permits Catholics here at home to demonstrate in a wonderfully concrete way their solidarity with the Church in need. Thank you so much for your support of their generosity.
