Denver’s televised "Mass for Shut-Ins" began broadcasting in 1966, and currently airs every Sunday morning at 6:30 a.m. MST on KBDI Channel 12.

The televised Mass is produced by the Archdiocese of Denver’s Office of Communications and is largely underwritten by The Gardens at St. Elizabeth Senior Living Community and Centura Senior Services.

An estimated 20,000 households tune into the “Mass for Shut-Ins” each week. Included in this number are retirement communities, nursing homes and other group living situations, all of which account for a high number of individual watches.

“For many of Colorado’s elderly, homebound and physically ailing, the broadcast of the 'Mass for Shut-Ins' is one of their week’s greatest joys. Through this ministry, the Archdiocese of Denver seeks to provide the spiritual nourishment and community that they would otherwise lack, given their inability to physically attend Mass.”

Q: How does the Digital Switch affect the Mass for Shut-Ins?
A. A recent snowstorm actually destroyed the analog antenna at the Channel 12 KBDI studio. Given the fast approaching transition to digital, and consequent abandonment of analog broadcasting, Channel 12 has decided not to replace the antenna. As such, Channel 12 has effectively made an early transition to digital. If you are currently experiencing a broken signal when watching Channel 12, you will need to either purchase a converter box, purchase a new TV set equipped with a digital tuner, or subscribe to cable or satellite service.
