Jan. 25, 2012 - Deacon William Henry Ward, 72, died Jan. 15 after a battle with cancer. He had been a deacon for 30 years.

Aug. 24, 2011 - The 2011 Deacon Day Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., Aug. 9 at St. Joan of Arc Church in Arvada.  It served as the diaconal community's farewell to Archbishop Chaput as he will leave Denver to be installed as archbishop of Philadelphia next month. Many deacons were also recognized for their years of ministry in five-year increments.

Aug. 17, 2011 (Denver Catholic Register) - Longtime Deacon Michael Howard, who founded a ministry building homes for the poor in Ciudad Juarez, Mexico, died Aug. 10. He was 69. Born Jan. 18, 1942 in Denver, he married his wife, the former Barbara Kirk, in August 1965. The couple reared three children: Julie, Jeffrey and Janna.

Aug. 17, 2011 - On the evening of Aug. 9, Archbishop Charles Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., celebrated Mass for the deacons of the Denver Archdiocese at St. Joan of Arc Church in Arvada.

June 26, 2011 (Denver Catholic Register) - A Discernment Retreat for those interested in diaconal ministry will be held 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21 at the John Paul II Center.  Deacon Mark Salvato will lead the retreat.

June 26, 2011 (Denver Catholic Register) -  The Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception was filled with family, friends and clergy on June 25 to witness the ordination of eight men to the diaconate: Matthew Archer, Charles Hahn, Steven Hinkle, Timothy Kelly, Jerome Kraft, Christopher Pomrening, Johnie Riviera and Colin Coleman of the Community of the Beatitudes, a Catholic community that includes consecrated and lay members.

May 13, 2011 - In addition to the seven men to be ordained priests by Archbishop Chaput next Saturday, May 21, the Archdiocese of Denver will ordain an eighth man, Deacon Dennis Garrou, a former Anglican pastor and married father of three adult children.

May 11, 2011 - On Sat., May 21, 2011 in the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, Denver Archbishop Charles J. Chaput, O.F.M. Cap., will ordain seven men attending the two seminaries of the Denver Archdiocese to the priesthood.
