Father Stan Fortuna, C.F.R., a dynamic musician-priest from the South Bronx, will entertain
guests with an interactive talk "Kids Say the Darndest Things" at a May 23 luncheon for the Seeds of
Hope Charitable Trust.
Hope Springs Eternal, an event of the Seeds of Hope Charitable Trust, begins with
registration at 11:15 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Downtown, 1750 Welton St., Denver. The luncheon
and program will follow at noon.
Seeds of Hope is committed to the belief that educating an impoverished child is saving
a life. By making available the benefits of Catholic education, Seeds of Hope provides an
opportunity for change to children whose lives are characterized by poverty and crime.
Father Fortuna has been playing music since the second grade when his father gave him
his first instrument for Christmas a red electric guitar. He is one of the original members of
the Community of Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, an order established in the Archdiocese of
New York in 1987. Father Fortuna lives in the South Bronx where he serves the poor and needy families.
He established Francesco Productions in 1987, a nonprofit company that produces his music,
teaching tapes and videos. From contemporary Christian to jazz, folk, reggae and rap, Father Fortuna is
a popular musician and composer whose music is enjoyed by people of all ages and walks of life.
All proceeds from sales of his tapes and videos go to the community's hands-on work with the poor.
"Children are our gifts from God and Seeds of Hope assists in providing children
with growth in mind and spirit," said Sharon Post, a Seeds of Hope board member.
Co-chairs for the event are Nancy Kopp and Jane Masterson. KWGN-TV anchor
Ernie Bjorkman will serve as master of ceremonies.
Ticket reservation deadline is May 16. Individual tickets are $60; patron tables of 10
are $3,000. Tickets may be purchased by calling the Seeds of Hope office at 303-715-3186.
