Annual tea to benefit Mullen Home Sept. 21

Event helps support seniors home operated by Little Sisters of the Poor

All are invited to attend the annual Membership Tea sponsored by the Jeanne Jugan Auxiliary 2-3:30 p.m. Sept. 21 at Mullen Home located at 29th Avenue and Lowell Boulevard in north Denver.

The event includes refreshments and a tour of the home for needy seniors, which is operated by the Little Sisters of the Poor.

The constant dedicated loving care given to the elderly by the Little Sisters of the Poor reaches across six continents and in the United States and Canada. They have 242 homes.

"Denver is fortunate to have the Little Sisters who have served the Rocky Mountain area for over 80 years," said Kay Ballen, a Jeanne Jugan Auxiliary member. The auxiliary does fund-raising for the home.

"With the increase of our elderly population, the apostolic mission of the Little Sisters is greatly needed for the elderly who have no aid or family support," Ballen said. "Everyone should tour Mullen Home and witness the work of the Little Sisters who dedicate themselves in caring for the aged, sick and dying offered in an atmosphere of love and compassion."

For over 27 years, the Jeanne Jugan Auxiliary has benefited the Little Sisters with their fund-raisers. The yearly $10 membership helps to maintain the auxiliary, Ballen said. Auxiliary members can choose to be active or inactive. "As a member, you become a sharer in Christ in the work and mission of the Little Sisters," Ballen said.

To attend the tea, call Jo Dire at 303-337-7997 or Rita Kelly at 303-758-6290.
