Dominican Sister of Hope celebrates 50th jubilee
Sister Patricia Catlett celebrates anniversary
Dominican Sister of Hope Patricia Catlett, who ministered with the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor in Denver and with Archdiocesan Housing, recently celebrated 50 years as a Dominican Sister.
Born in Denver, she entered the Dominican Sisters Sept. 8, 1952. She made first profession of vows Sept. 9, 1954, and final vows Sept. 9, 1957.
Her only sibling is actor Mary Jo Catlett, who serves as the voice for Mrs. Puff in the children's program "Spongebob Squarepants."
Joking, Sister Catlett said, "We share the limelight."
Sister Catlett ministered with the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor in Denver (1955-56), in Cincinnati (1956-57) and in Ossining, N.Y. (1958-60). After completing studies she worked as a nurse with the Dominican Sisters of the Sick Poor in Hampton Bays, N.Y. (1962-63), in Columbus, Ohio (1963-64), and in Springfield, Ohio (1964-83).
She did social work and nursing with the Catholic Social Services in Springfield, Ohio (1978-79) and did home nursing with Urbana Nursing Home in Urbana, Ohio (1979-83). She was a nurse at St. Mary of the Springs Infirmary in Columbus (1983-93).
After four years caring for an elderly parent, she worked in ministry to the blind in Denver (1998-99). She most recently worked with the Archdiocesan Housing Committee in Denver.
Sister Catlett earned her RN from Bronx Community College and her bachelor's degree in social work from Ohio Dominican College.
