Sinsinawan Dominican nun celebrates 50th jubilee

Sister Mary Owen Haggerty celebrated her 50th year as a member of the Sinsinawa Dominicans on June 30. Mass was celebrated in the Queen of the Rosary Chapel at the motherhouse in Sinsinawa, Wis.

Sister Haggerty is a native of Denver and until 1950 was a member of St. Dominic Parish. She was educated at St. Dominic Grade School, North High School, University of Denver, Children's Hospital, Catholic University and Spokane-Gonzaga University.

Sister Haggerty served as head nurse at the Villa in Dubuque, Iowa, for 25 years. The Villa is where the sick and retired Dominicans received health care. She has been providing spiritual direction to the general community as well as Parish Nursing services to the Lutheran and Methodist parishes in East Dubuque, Ill.

Sister Haggerty is active in the local communities by participating in workshops, retreats and seminars. She plays cello in the Sinsinawa community orchestra. She also plays hand bells, golfs and fishes.

School Sister of St. Francis celebrates 60th jubilee

Sister Mary Garciá (Joaquín) of Fort Collins was among 82 U.S. School Sisters of St. Francis who celebrated milestone anniversaries of service as women religious June 15 with liturgy, dinner and reception at St. Joseph Center, the community's motherhouse.

Sister Garciá celebrates 60 years as a School Sister. Sister Garciá was born Feb. 2, 1924, in Colorado and joined the order's Latin American Province in 1942. Her ministries have included education and pastoral work in Wisconsin, Illinois, Honduras and Costa Rica. She served on the international leadership team for School Sisters of St. Francis in Milwaukee from 1996 to 1998. She lives in Fort Collins, where she does administrative and pastoral work at Holy Family Parish.

The School Sisters of St. Francis are an international congregation of more than 1,300 serving in the United States, Europe, Latin America and India.

In the United States, 850 School Sisters strive to make a difference in the lives of the poor, especially women and children, through ministries in education, health care, social and pastoral work, fine arts, and prayer and presence. BVM Sister celebrates golden jubilee

Sister of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Betty Voss recently celebrated her golden jubilee. Sister Voss was pastoral associate at Our Lady of Grace Parish in Welby from 1987-1992, and at Holy Cross Parish in Thornton from 1992-2000.

Currently she is a coordinator of associates for the BVM congregation.

Sister Voss was one of 22 golden jubilarians who celebrated her anniversary at the community's motherhouse, Mount Carmel in Dubuque, Iowa, on July 21.

Six Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary currently minister in the Archdiocese of Denver.
