North Denver theater a gem
On May 24 I attended a production of "Joan of Arc" at the Oriental Theater on West 44th Avenue and Tennyson Street. I was uplifted, enthralled and swept away by the amazing entertainment at this tucked-away place in a north Denver neighborhood.
I am assuming there are many who are not aware of the quality that Destiny Productions is presenting. The musical, "Joan of Arc," is the creation of David White, who penned the libretto as well as the music. This production is one of many original gems to be offered at the theater. During the intermission we visited with White and learned that the audiences have been few as of late and that if things do not pick up the theater may close. I am writing this letter to inform lovers of theater (musical and otherwise) of the existence of this incredible find and to encourage anyone who might be interested in quality, family, inspiring entertainment to include this fine presentation in your weekend plans. We cry out at the R-rated movies and objectionable fare that is being offered as entertainment. This group of talented people deserves to be seen and heard, and appreciated for their talent and hard work. Take yourself, your family and anyone else to one of these evenings. You will surely be touched. Performances (through June 16) are Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m., and Sundays at 3 p.m. Call 303-433-3786 for information.

Preach about personal sin
After several decades of hearing preaching about politically correct social sin lack of concern for racism, poverty, environmentalism, diversity, tolerance, inclusiveness, etc. isn't it time we hear more about personal sin such as adultery, fornication, alcohol/drug abuse, artificial birth control, child abuse, abortion, homosexual acts, etc.? In light of the current scandals within the Church, it seems the latter topics would be not only timely, but necessary. We are all sinners.

Rosary maker blessed lives
In heaven there is a huge celebration going on hosted by the Blessed Virgin Mary. When Daniel McEnery died the first part of May, the very month of Mary, he left the world dimmer but heaven became brighter. He taught my husband and I to make rosaries in 1957, and since that time, he taught hundreds of others to do the same.
He literally enriched the globe with his expertise both in creating rosaries and in teaching others. Missionaries far and wide benefit from his dedication.
He loved and cared for his beloved wife Nellie until she left for heaven. The joys of his life were his daughter Mary Jean, her children and grandchildren.
He was also an usher at the cathedral and participated actively in parish activities.
What a wonderful example to us all! He will be missed until we meet again.

A reverent first Communion
My son received the sacrament of first Communion at St. Joseph's Church in Golden recently. There were over 70 children participating in this special occasion. The church was filled with family and friends, some coming as far away as Germany. The children processed and took their seats like angels from heaven. Those children who did the readings could teach our regular Sunday lecturers a few lessons. During the homily, the children answered Father (Joseph) Monahan's questions with excitement and knowledge. Those children taking the gifts to the altar did so with pride and reverence. When each child approached Father Monahan to receive Communion they did so in a prayerful manner with great respect for the Blessed Sacrament each was about to receive. Unlike the "three-ring circuses" mentioned in a recent letter, this celebration of the Lord's Eucharist was filled with reverence and love for our savior. The children participated fully, did not interrupt the service, did not chew gum, and did not have any gimmicks to understand the meaning of this holy sacrament. Their preparation was evident in the manner in which they conducted themselves during Mass. I applaud those who prepared our children for their first Communion and helped to make this celebration so reverent and memorable. I would also like to thank those observers who respectfully refrained from taking pictures in order to keep the service holy. A big thank you to the children who celebrated and received their first Communion with the faith and love that this holy sacrament deserves. Three-ring circus? Not by a long shot. A holy and reverent celebration by God's children, yes in every way possible!Margaret BarkGoldenLord's name sacred Thank you, thank you, Cari Fifield. I was relieved to know that someone else feels the same as I about the frivolous use of our Lord's name. I have stopped watching many TV shows because it pained me to hear God's name used over and over again like some kind of slang word. If more people would turn away from shows that do this, possibly, networks and sponsors would get the message.Anna GuttormsonLakewoodPrayer for the Church Here is a short prayer found in the missalette we use at St. Augustine in Brighton. It would be very good for as many people as possible to say this prayer daily leading up to and during the bishops' conference in June. "Prayer for Christian Unity" by William Laud. Gracious Father, we pray to you for your holy Catholic Church. Fill it with your truth. Keep it in your peace. Where it is corrupt, reform it. Where it is in error, correct it. Where it is right, defend it. Where it is in want, provide for it. Where it is divided, reunite it; for the sake of your Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.
