"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

This year's Guardian Angels School eighth-grade graduating class resembles Denver's multiethnic northside. Spanish surnames and a blend of other groups resemble the roster of so many contemporary major league baseball teams: Romero, Lopez, Geist, Rodriguez, Nieto, Kuczak, Rivera, Perez, ChaGuardian Angels' class of 2002 reflects Denver diversity

"We hope that they leave here with faith and a greater compassion for people and that they understand and respect cultural, religious and personality differences," says seventh- and eighth-grade teacher Melissa Jones.
Just last week the 24 students of the eighth-grade graduating class returned from their five-day trip to YMCA's Snow Mountain Ranch near Winter Park. The trip to the 5,000-acre mountain retreat allows the students one last get-a-way before preparing for their high school adventures this fall.
The annual springtime trip represents a 22-year tradition at the school, said Jones, a teacher at the school since 1980. Students and faculty return physically exhausted but spiritually rejuvenated from the fresh mountain air and camaraderie.
Each class of the Guardian Angels School's 175 other students patiently waits for this graduating treat away from the classroom. Some of the class of 2002 will go on to Machebeuf, Holy Family or Regis high schools.
"They're a very energized group," notes Jones. "They are very social and willing to learn new things. We'd like them to have a good, strong Catholic faith when they leave."
