13th annual Salute to Seniors May 8

Resource fair to offer information and entertainment

Making decisions about elder care is one of the most complicated decisions facing seniors and their families. Misinformation, lack of experience, and well-meaning friends who don't understand the technical details of elder care can cause frustration, fear and sometimes, actual harm.

At the 13th annual Salute to Seniors scheduled 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 8 at the Colorado Convention Center, seniors and their families can bring their questions and visit with experts from HMOs and health insurance, nursing homes, Medicare and Medicaid, as well as home care to gather information about caring for family members. Other experts at the resource fair will be available to talk about housing, assisted living, financial planning, banking, leisure, long term care insurance, and pharmaceutical discount programs.

To highlight the day's events, Arthur Duncan, a tap dancer from the Lawrence Welk Show, will bring 50 years of memories to the audience. Duncan will be accompanied by Colorado's own Joe Peterson Band for a morning and an afternoon performance. Duncan is the quintessential song and dance man whose performances are a lively collection of sophisticated footwork and wonderful songs.

Craig Zablocki will bring laughter to life during the pre-show "Lighten Up and Laugh for the Health of It." The comedic presentation will provide tips for using humor to promote a healthier, richer lifestyle.

Rick Crandall, morning host of the Breakfast Club at KEZW-AM 1430, will greet and meet listeners at the KEZW booth following his morning radio show.

Mitch Jelnicker, former evening anchor at Channel 7 News, will serve as the morning emcee. Publisher of the Seniors Marketplace News, Robert Trembley, also will be on hand to greet participants.

Sponsored by the Colorado Gerontological Society, the event is hosted by the Denver Commission on Aging.

Bring a friend and save money. General admission is $7 for the first ticket and $3.50 for the second one. Pre-registration is suggested. Discounts are available for groups of 10 or more.
