Hispanic Office sponsors pilgrimages
Trips planned to Chimayó, N.M., and Mexico City
The Hispanic Office of the Archdiocese of Denver is sponsoring two pilgrimages this fall, one to the Santuario de Chimayó in New Mexico and the other to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City.
The pilgrimage to Chimayó is set Sept. 6-8. Travelers will depart by bus at 7 a.m. Sept. 6 from Centro L.U.P.E., 3401 Pecos St. in Denver. Sites to be visited include the dramatic Stations of the Cross Shrine in San Luis, Colo.
Pilgrims will spend the first night in Taos, N.M. Second day will be spent in Chimayó. On the third day pilgrims will visit Santa Fe, N.M., where the 290th Fiestas de Santa Fe will be taking place. Pilgrimage cost is $245, which includes round-trip bus fare, two nights lodging and five meals.
The pilgrimage to the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City is scheduled Oct. 14-19. Pilgrims will arrive in Mexico City and will proceed to Puebla for two days of touring beautiful churches and enjoying traditional Mexican meals. In Mexico City pilgrims will spend a day at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe, where the tilma bearing the miraculous image of Our Lady of Guadalupe is enshrined. Other attractions include the Museum of Anthropology, the Zocalo, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the pyramids of the sun and moon. The $1299 tour cost includes round-trip airfare from Denver to Mexico, tours in an air-conditioned bus, breakfast and dinner, and lodging in first-class hotels.
The pilgrimage journey is just as important as the destination itself, organizers said. Pilgrims often express feeling closer to God and to Mary as a result of visiting sacred sites. Benefits can include a renewal of spirit and deepening of faith. For more information, call Erlinda Moscoso at 303-433-9013.
