Regis High names campus areas after former trustees

Campbell and McNicholas couples honored, room named after priest

Regis Jesuit High School announced it will name its campus after former Chairman of the Board of Trustees Richard O. Campbell and his wife Dorothy. The common space between the boys and new girls division will be named after former Chairman Kevin McNicholas and his wife Mary. Both honors are in recognition of the trustees' length of service and family contributions to the school.

The Regis Jesuit High School grounds now will be known as the "Campbell Campus." Campbell, Regis class of 1954 and a long-time trustee and benefactor, was the first lay board chair in Regis history. Campbell donated the 27-acre site at Parker and Arapahoe roads, upon which the current Regis campus sits.

The "McNicholas Green," named in honor of Kevin and Mary McNicholas, long-time benefactors and generous supporters, will be developed as part of the expanded Regis campus. The recreation and athletic practice space will divide the boys and girls divisions at the expanded Regis campus. The common area also will serve as open space for outdoor Mass and other gatherings for students, faculty and parents. Kevin McNicholas served on the Board for 10 years, six of those as chairman.

"It is with great pleasure and pride that we honor Dick Campbell and Kevin McNicholas, for their personal and financial contributions to our school," said Father Wally Sidney, S.J., Regis president. "Without their tireless and unwavering commitment to our institution, we would not have experienced our significant growth and success and be in a position to offer greater service to the archdiocese."

The Regis Board of Trustees also voted to rename the President's Conference Room "The Houlihan Conference Room," after Father Ralph D. Houlihan, S.J., the first president of Regis Jesuit High School. In addition, a plaque will be placed outside the conference room recognizing the dedication and commitment of all former Regis trustees.

The expanded Regis campus will include construction of a new building for 850 young men, a modified facility that will accommodate 750 young women, additional playing fields and parking. A boys and girls division will be established and operate as two separate and distinct entities with each having its own principal, administrative team, faculty and staff. Each division will provide single-sex education. The expanded campus is expected to open in August 2003, dependent on the achievement of fundraising goals, organizers said.
